We need to emphasise on the importance of parents. as the time slowly passes by we forget what our parents had to go through in order for us to be here.
Parents form an important part of our lives; I know parents can be too much sometimes, but you should also not forget that you were once a handful. First of all, we need to understand that parents have rights over us. Therefore, Islam tells us to respect and obey them. There have also been a lot of hadiths (narrations) regarding parents.
It has been narrated by Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that: the prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) said. ‘’it is one of the greatest sins that a man should curse his parents.’’ It was asked (by the people), ‘’oh messenger of Allah! How does a man curse his parents? The prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) said. ‘’the man abuses the father of another man and the latter abuses the father of the former, and abuses his mother then the latter abuses his mother.’’
In our day and age parents are disregarded, they are being shown ingratitude and their sacrifices are not regarded in the least. Islam has raised the status of parents. we cannot disobey our parents unless they tell us to do and say things against Islam. Islam has taken it upon itself to link the entry of Jannah (paradise) to the obedience of parents. So, in other words in order to enter paradise, the pleasure of our parents is required, even if they are not Muslims. that is why we need to place greater importance to parents.
Let’s all face it, the sacrifices that our parents went through can never be repaid, even if we tried.
Those moments that they had to endure sleepless nights, because we were not well. They spent the night awake as though the sickness was that of their own. They left their comfort zone, so as to give us the best of this world. When we finally grew up, all we do is repay them with rudeness, harshness etc. , and once they got old we sent them to the old age homes. (May Allah forgive us and guide us to the straight path).
The messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) said: ‘’one who pleases his parents has verily pleased Allah and one who angered his parents has verily angered Allah.’’
How naïve and feeble can we get? How ignorant , how unconscious are our days! Let’s mend our ways before the day comes when all hope is lost.
I would like to conclude by saying:
May Allah have mercy on our parents just as they had mercy on us.
