First and foremost, in order for us to understand why it is necessary for Muslim women to wear the hijab, we have to know exactly what hijab means, so lets read forward.
HIJAB is a veil worn by Muslim women in the presence of any male outside of their immediate family, which usually covers the head and chest, and sometimes the face.
Why should I cover myself? And why is Hijab important?
Islam isn’t just a religion; it is also a way of life. Islam has established beautiful rules in order for our lives to be in order, whether it be social norms, economical norms and family norms, Islam has it all covered for you. Islam stops corruption right from its roots, it cuts off anything that leads to sin e.g., fornication, adultery etc.
The reason why Islam tells us to cover ourselves:
let’s take for example a ‘diamond’.
When a person has a diamond, they obviously want to make sure that it is safe from danger and prying eyes. whereby the owner keeps it concealed in a pouch.
similarly a Muslim woman is regarded as a gem, and should be treated as one.
Islam has placed great importance on the purity and value of a woman, by concealing her from the violence and harshness and sins of this world.
The Qur’an says:’’ Oh prophet! Tell your wives, your daughters, and the believing women to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies. That will be better so that they may be known, so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is most forgiving, most merciful’’.
Besides the ruling of covering ourselves in Islam. Modesty itself demands that you cover yourself like how you would cover yourself while in prayer.
Why is wearing the hijab so important:
The true fact is in our times we have both good and bad men. They treat you according to the way that you are dressed.
Nowadays with these enticing outfits that are being worn for beauty purposes bring about the wrong approach. For that reason, the wearing of hijab is considered important.
Men are also advice to lower their gaze, like in the following verse:
Allah says in the holy Qur’an: ‘’Say to the believing men that: they should cast down their glances and guard their private parts (by being chaste). This is better for them all.
In the above verse we see that not only are woman advised to cover themselves, but men are also advised to lower their gaze.
In this case both genders avoid any evil temptations that may arise.
I would like to conclude by saying:
’’ modesty brings only goodness’’.
‘’When modesty leaves you then you may do as you please’’.
