Diego simeone insisted on saying he knew that Atletico madrid will have to fight till the end if they are to win the laliga Santander championship title.

The battle between Los roji blancos and Los blancos ( Atletico madrid and real madrid) has come close after this weekend’s madrid derby game that was a draw of 1-1 from both teams on sunday, placing Barcelona only 3 points behind.

Simeone said at full time”I don’t want to be extreme with what I say.”

“I leave here with loads of important things at the moment – the team’s play, the points total that everyone has put a massive effort in to during a season where everyone was thinking that we were going to win the league by 20 points. I don’t know what they were thinking.

“It’s going to be a very difficult road until the end for everybody.

“We want to improve on last season and we’ll go on that track.”

The Atletico boss remained quiet when the decision was made that deprived real madrid of a penalty due to the hand ball by Felipe.

Simeone said “I have too many things to worry about to think about that,”

“I leave that it to the people on VAR and the referees.

I don’t get involved because I have so many other things to think about.

“They told me it was handball by [Sergio] Ramos at Eibar.

“It’s very difficult for the referees to have a criteria – is it too low, to high, in the air, on the ground…

“I’m worried about which team wins, which team is consistent over the whole season and so on.

“VAR has made us more convinced about what used to be offside or not, if it’s a penalty or not… It’s improved a lot in all areas.”

Other than that Atletico couldnt say anything when Karim benzema’s equaliser came in during the closing stages. The likes of Yannick Carrasco and Angel Correa had missed big chances for the hosts.
“Finishing off chances allows you to relax,” Simeone said.

“We had lots of chances.

“[Thibaut] made some great saves from Carrasco, Correa…

“The team was brave. We almost dominated the whole game in the first half and did the same for the first 30 minutes of the second half.

“They had a good chance [for Benzema before the goal] that [Jan] Oblak stopped and then they scored the equaliser.”
